On our Thursday
ride we took what they call the Wet Prong trail. That's because one
crossed the creek about 15 times. It is so very cool. Across the creek -
up - along - down - across - and on and on. On one of these crossing
Glenda dropped her hat in. It was a very expensive chapeau and couldn't
be lost to the stream. Okay - so it was a $2 visor. But it's the point
of it. No littering, a reason to get off, and it's fun to be the savior.
Now let me be clear here. It's not Glenda getting off. It's too far down
and too far up. Glenda had already had problems the day before when she
learned a very important lesson. Don't ever mount and laugh at the same
time. It just doesn't work. So she's happy to donate the visor to the
next traveler. But Connie, who has legs that go on forever, is happy to
hop off and fetch the visor. And, yea Connie, she didn't even fall in.
It was close - but she managed to be the hero.
We did run
into a little muck that day. I could have missed that part of the trip.
When I saw Kevin go in above his knees I knew Barb would never take Missy
into that. But she didn't even hesitate, darn her! So Cash and I forged
ahead. It was not nice. I had muck splattered all over. But the horses
were brave and true. Plus it was the shortest way back to camp.
We left
Friday morning and headed home. The ride to our "horse hotel" was pretty
uneventful. Gas stations were a challenge - but we were up to anything
now.
We stayed that night south of Chicago. The Swedish lady that owned
the stables taught jumping lessons and it was fun to watch her students.
We had a relaxing final evening. The horses got to wander in a pasture
until bed time. "The Beav" had tried all of his costumes and was ready to
go home.
It felt like the
end of the trip. On Saturday it poured on the way home and the only
trouble we had either way was in Green Bay when we had to stop due to
heavy rains.
Yes, I'd do it again. It was wonderful to be riding with friends.
It could not have been better. We ride well together and we traveled
well together. Lots of laughs and memories to take home with us.
Thanks friends
for traveling with me.
